How it all started...

In 1938, the Dearborn Free Methodist Church (DFMC) was formed with ten charter members. The church began through the vision of a few Godly individuals who wanted to see chidlren and families grow in their faith in Jesus.  The Church, consisting primarily of five families, met in a little white building.  It was a time when factory wages were less than $1.00 per hour and you could purchase a very nice home in Dearborn for less than $5.000.

From the very beginning, children were a very high priority.  Throughout its history, the Dearborn Free Methodist Church has done its best to ministry to children and families in the surrounding community.  As the church continued to grow, so did its reach as families from other cities also began to be a part of DFMC.

Expanding the vision...

The church eventually moved to the Outer Drive location.  In the early 1960s, the church had grown beyond the capacity of the building on Outer Drive.  The leadership team at that time envisioned a sizable expansion, doubling the seating capacity and adding a new kitchen and other functional areas.. This project increased seating capacity to 700, enabling serving many more families, and greatly expanding the church's ability to serve the surrounding community.

Not long after this expansion, the church launched a new church in Taylor, Michigan to serve the many families in Taylor and the downriver area.

In 1981, the church moved to its current location on Telegraph Road.

Where we are headed...

DFMC is a church with many ministries and ministry partners.  The central church provides Sunday morning worship services as well as ministries to various ages and demographic groups.  It also functions as a hub, providing oversight and support for expressions of church in other communities as well as a variety of community service initiatives.  For example, we provide a dinner church in the Brightmoor community in Detroit as well as one in Lincoln Park.  Through partnerships with Mission Igniter and others, we offer Jiran Collective, which is a ministry to refugee families from the middle east.

Through our Revive Network non-profit, we provide a variety of community service initiatives.  These include food pantries in Dearborn and Lincoln Park, ESL classes, citizenship classes and a variety of other services to the Metro Detroit area.

We also offer the Harbor Homeschool, which provides enrichment classes for homeschooled children. More than 150 kids and their families are part of the school each semester.  To learn more, go to  http://www.harborhomeschool.org.
